San Antonio Road Trip

We decided to take a weekend road trip to visit San Antonio. I had never been and it had been years since Stephen had been back to visit. It is a pretty quick road trip down, depending on traffic. We had never stuck Russell in his car seat for that long, so we were a little worried about how he would handle it. But we prepared with lots of food and some movies for him to watch! I was hoping he would nap during part of the drive down, but that did not happen of course.

Made a pit stop to check out Buc-ee's.

We also stopped in Austin to have lunch and take a tour of her theater. It was such a cute theater. Russell really enjoyed the Cat in the Hat in the bathroom! It was nice to take a longer break and see Courtney, even though we would see her and Trenton the next day. We got some delicious Tex-Mex to top it all off!

Then we just had a short drive down to San Antonio. Stephen's childhood house is in a neighborhood next to the San Antonio temple, so we decided to visit both of them before checking into our hotel.

Russell was slightly terrified of the giant turtle. 

He kept looking back to see where it was.

He LOVED the hippo exhibit. I'm not sure he noticed 

the hippos, but he was communicating with the fish!

he is more and more interested in the animals.

After the zoo we all needed some food. And we got a ton of food at Alamo Cafe. They have the most delicious fresh tortillas from their factory. I was in heaven. Russell was in love with the fact that they had access to the outside for him to run around while we waited for food. Then we had to say goodbye to Courtney and Trenton. 

 We were trying to go to Spurs game, but tickets were expensive plus a bunch of starters weren't even playing. So we just went out and got some dinner then relaxed in the room.

We spent our last day exploring downtown San Antonio, which meant the Alamo and Riverwalk. It was the anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo, so there was a lot going on. It was pretty exciting!

Russell just wanted to run around the Alamo, and was not happy to go back into his stroller for the Riverwalk. He calmed down and enjoyed looking at the water. Downtown is definitely not stroller friendly. We took lots of stairs with the stroller. Luckily Russell isn't heavy.

Before we headed out we needed to let Russell run and run before being stuck in his car seat for hours. We found a little park on our way back to the car. It was Russell's favorite part of the day. There were birds to chase, rocks to collect and even a friend to play with! They have a really cool thing where there is a booth with books and outside toys that you can borrow and use while at the park. I thought that was genius!

Our drive back was pretty awful. There was a multi-car pile up that had the freeway and frontage road completely backed up. It took us almost 2 hours to get past it. It was not fun. Russell was tired and grumpy which added to the fun. But we survived!

We had lots of fun, but we were ready to be back home and relax. And relax Russell did the next day...
